Overview

We're searching for a capable proposal writer to join our growing team. As a member of this team, you will have a firsthand role in supporting Nelnet's diversification efforts in professional business services. The ideal proposal writer will have strong writing and editing skills and the ability to work well in a fast-paced work environment. This individual will ensure proposal responses are persuasive, accurate, and completed on-time to meet proposal deadlines.

Responsibilities

Performing analysis and evaluation of proposal request requirements. Scheduling and documenting proposal content meetings (e.g., gathering content, reviews, etc.) in accordance with best practices. Proposal writing, including, but not limited to, developing drafts and detailed outlines, incorporating feedback and refining proposal copy to the approval stage, and writing and tailoring resumes, project descriptions, summary paragraphs, action captions, and benefit statements. Ensuring the timely execution of proposal content and design. Assisting in the maintenance of a repository and library of all proposals and other relevant content and resources. Assisting the Proposal Coordinator, as needed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

4-year degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, or related field

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-4 years in a writing-focused position
  • Experience writing government and/or technology proposals a plus.

COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

Proven mastery of English language and grammar. Ability to follow writing standards; familiarity with AP or CMOS style. Exceptional oral and written communication, editing, problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with strong attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and balance multiple projects. Effective interpersonal skills exemplified by initiative, courtesy, diplomacy, positive attitude, professionalism, and appropriate business ethics. Critical thinker; able to perform analysis including recognizing patterns and drawing inferences. Ability to read and comprehend detailed technical documents. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure to meet critical deadlines yet remain flexible in responding to changing requirements. Skilled in office programs software. Strong familiarity with MS Word essential. Strong project management skills including the ability to successfully define and execute project activities from initiation through completion. Availability outside of normal business hours.
