Position: Carpentry Instructor

(ten-month assignment)

Location: Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center

Salary: The salary for this position will be based on EASMC salary schedule (#1)

for ten-month employees.

Effective: August 2018

NATURE OF WORK:

This is a professional position to meet the instructional goals of the school and school system by delivering instructional programs effectively to ensure student achievement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Direct and evaluate student learning experiences;

* Provide guidance to students to promote education development and welfare;

* Provide care and protection of school property;

* Supervise student activity on school property; and

* Plan and coordinate the instructional program in accordance with the current curricula.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instruct students in the areas of carpentry such as:

> Building materials

> Construction drawings/blue print reading

> Exterior construction/framing

> Roof framing/ceiling joists

> Flooring

> Doors/windows

> Exterior finishing

> Insulation/ventilation

> Interior construction/finishing/trim

> Stairs

> Estimating

> Other areas according to the current curriculum and course objectives

* Demonstrate proper tool and equipment use with emphasis on safety;

* Develop and maintain lesson plans;

* Coordinate hands-on training activities;

* Monitor, evaluate and document students' progress through observation, tests and examinations in both theory and practice;

* Ensure related equipment and supplies are up-to-date;

* Develop and utilize a variety of instructional techniques and delivery methods to meet individual learning styles;

* Demonstrate evidence of professional growth and academic currency;

* Prepare and recommend students for job-placement and/or continuing education;

* Participate in school related activities, committees, professional development activities, and other school related events; and

* Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* High School Diploma or equivalent or degree from an institute of higher education;

* At least five years residential construction experience preferred;

* Teaching or training experience or certification preferred;

* Possess or be willing to pursue professional certification for the appropriate position;

* Ability to work with at-risk youth;

* Demonstrate the ability to relate well to students, teachers, parents, and community members;

* Demonstrate exemplary organizational, management, and relevant technology skills;

* Ability to project a positive image to the public; and

* Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

Full-time ten-month position

SALARY GRADE RANGE:

The salary for this position will be based on EASMC salary schedule (#1) for ten-month employees.
