Packout Bulkloading Operator

Location: Lawrence, KS

Reports to: Operations Supervisor

Position: Hourly


Operators on each shift are responsible for operation of the P2S5 milling system, tote bin loading, tote bin unloading, tote bin cleaning and loading P2S5 railcars. They maintain inert gas (nitrogen or carbon dioxide) flows in production equipment, service oxygen analyzers and recycle off grade product through the rework system for P2S5.


* Follow safety rules and procedures for handling P2S5 and H2S, NaOH.

* Follow plant emergency procedures.

* Operates three Alpine Mills and makes screen changes.

* Operates the rework system.

* Maintains housekeeping throughout areas of responsibility.

* Monitor all equipment in area of responsibility and communicates with supervision on equipment status and problems.

* Monitor nitrogen and carbon dioxide inerting systems.

* Load tote bins on three scales to desired weights.

* Maintain oxygen analyzer system.

* Sample material from tote bins for quality analysis and customer shipments.

* Operate dust separator and waste air fan.

* Complete production, quality and safety records assigned to the Packout/Bulkloading position.

* Clean, wash and pressure test tote bins.

* Safely operate fork truck.

* Know and follow all applicable safety procedures and requirements.

* Clean and unplug equipment as necessary to maintain operability.

* Comply with the requirements of the Quality System.

* Complete other job responsibilities as assigned.

* Respond to a plant emergency within level of training.

Environmental Health and Safety Responsibilities

Operators must follow all plant safety and environmental policies and procedures as well as Responsible Care policy and standards where employee should:

* Become familiar with Chemtrade Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) policies and procedures.

* Immediately report all ES&H incidents (injuries, near misses, releases).

* Complete all required ES&H training in a timely fashion.

* Follow all Chemtrade facility and corporate ES&H procedures and practices

* Attend and actively participate in facility ES&H meetings and forums that will drive employee involvement.

* Provide feedback and suggestions for ES&H program improvement.

* Participate in job safety analysis activities

Minimum Qualifications

* High school diploma or GED

* Must successfully complete new employee orientation and all job specific training.

* Must be a certified fork truck operator

Physical Qualifications

* Must be able to go up and down flights of stairs as necessary carrying miscellaneous equipment

* Must be able to wear and work in self contained PPE breathing air.

* Must be able to work in emergency HazMat situations while wearing an aluminized suit.

* Must be able to repeatedly use pneumatic air hammer and some hand tools.

* Must be able to work in awkward positions to unplug and clean equipment as necessary.

* Must be able to work outdoors during inclement winter and summer weather.

* Must be able to lift 50 pounds bag
