The Psychiatric Technician performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patient. Assist in providing and or coordinating psychiatric care for persons experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness or emotional distress. Assists the professional and technical nursing staff from the Psych departments by performing any delegated duties, specialized procedures, and assists with care of seriously ill patients. The Psychiatric Technician is cross trained on the inpatient psychiatric units and therefore is expected to be knowledgeable and capable to work throughout all of Psychiatric Services. The Psychiatric Technician is a patient advocate and is expected to adhere to all Psychiatric Services policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Experience in working with mentally ill persons, addicted persons or in providing personal care services.
- Basic Computer Skills
- Crisis Response Training, CPR, Prefer Certified Nursing Assistant
- Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel; Advanced mathematical skills.
- Requires emotional stability and resilience; Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight; Exhibits organizational and leadership ability; Shows ability to gain and maintain support and respect.
