Statement of Purpose

Performs all aspects of diagnostic services in the Audiology department and ensures the safe delivery of quality care. Address the needs of the department as issues arise with competency and integrity.

Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

* Supervises Audiology graduate students.

* Performs Basic Audiometric Audiological Testing including but not limited to: Comprehensive Behavioral Audiometry, Impedance Testing, Visual Reinforcement Audiometry using age appropriate techniques, and Conditioning Play Audiometry.

* Performs specialized audiometric, vestibular, and neurologial testing including but not limited to: Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions, Auditory Brainstem Response Testing, Video-Nystagmography, Electrocochleography, Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential Testing, and Auditory Steady State Testing.

* Evaluates, fits, and dispenses Hearing Aids to appropriately identified patients through the Hear Now Program. Follow-up of such patients is also required.

* Performs Epley Maneuver for BPPV patients following positive identification.

* Fabrication of in house swim molds on referred patients.

* Interprets testing and completes reports with results and recommendations to physicians, staff, allied health professionals, and patients in a timely manner.

* Educates patients and provides resources based on recommendations when appropriate.

* Enters all charges and diagnosis codes into system on same day of service.

* Ensures all federal, state, and regional mandates as related to the field of Audiology are adhered to.

* Adheres to all departmental, hospital, and system policies.

* Assists in the provision of educational workshops to the ENT, Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine residents as requested or needed.

* Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to newborn, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients for all testing ordered in the department.

* Completes annual continuing education as required for licensure.

* Provides feedback to department manager as necessary.

* Assists manager and other staff in the scheduling of patients for initial evaluations and follow-up visits.

* Assists in all activities pertinent to the smooth work flow in department.

* Able to completely cover the needs of the department in the absence of Manager or supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION-TRAINING-EXPERIENCE

* Master's Degree or Clinical Doctorate in Audiology

* Must be licensed in Audiology by Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech Pathologists and Audiologists

* Must maintain membership in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association

* CPR certification within 90 days of employment

APTITUDES

* Excellent verbal ability and communication skills are required

* Must have interpretive, mathematical, and analytical skills

* Must have clerical ability to accurately record technical and statistical data

* Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

* Ability to cooperate with members of the entire health care team.

* Ability to function effectively under stressful conditions.

* Ability to address a variety of duties and responsibilities in an organized manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

* Work involves fine and gross motor control and dexterity for operation of essential equipment.

* Work is performed inside and involves sitting, standing, and supporting patients.

* Talking, hearing, and sight are essential for testing.

* Medium level work is required to assist patients for Vestibular testing.

* May be required to transport patients in wheel chairs into sound booth.
