The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Editorial Assistant (Desktop Publishing) with the responsibility for design, layout, and production of visual products for print and electronic publications using high level software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft products).

As the Editorial Assistant in this position, you will:

* Plan, organize, and develop training material for Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC) in collaboration with management, project officers, and subject matter experts.

* Serve as a focal point for sending and receiving finished products.

* Prepare material for digital and print output ensuring organization standards are being met.

* Assist in carrying out Editorial (Desktop Publishing) and other organizational requirements.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft while on temporary duty.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. If qualifying based on education, a copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application.

A. Have at least one full year of specialized experience assisting in the design and layout of visual products for print and electronic publications using high level software. This includes: (1) editing manuscripts for grammar and clarity; (2) using professional desktop publishing software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop; (3) coordinating with project leads/course developers to complete a final product from start to finish (4) organizing the placement of graphics or other design decisions during the layout process; and (5) reviewing materials returned from printers/warehouse for discrepancies. This experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 level in the Federal service (obtained either in private or public sectors).


B. Successfully completed at least one (1) year of graduate education in a field directly related to the work of this position. Note: You must submit your transcripts.


C. Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate education. This education is in a field directly related to the work of this position. To compute, first determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required; then, determine your education as a percentage of the education required. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Note: You must submit your transcripts.
