Biopolymer Research Associate

Pay Grade: 41

The Center for Renewable Carbon at the University ofTennessee seeks applicants for a full-time Research Associate position. TheResearch Associate will assist in research programs focused on biomassconversion to material products using analytical methods and advancedmanufacturing techniques. The role of the incumbent will focus on all tasksassociated with the characterization and production of new materials fromlignocellulosic biomass.

The anticipated start date is August 1, 2018.

Qualifications

* A BS/BA in chemistry, physics, engineering,biology, or related discipline.

* Supervisory experience, 5 years of analyticallaboratory experience.

* Knowledge of chemistry and analyticaltechniques/equipment including HPLC, UV-spectrometry, FT-IR, GC-MS, thermalanalysis.

* Ability to conduct pre-processing of variousbiomass including wood and natural fibers.

* Knowledge of statistical design of experiments.

* Skills in analyzing and interpreting data fromvarious instruments and ability to summarize findings.

* Skills using Microsoft Office Suite.

* Computational software skills.

* Ability to write for peer-reviewed publications.

* Knowledge of lab safety.

* Ability to manage multiple projectssimultaneously.

* Ability to learn new programs.

* Ability to communicate knowledge to others.

* Ability to work independently and in a team.

Support

The position will be for 12 months and can be renewed for afurther 12 months, subject to satisfactory performance and availability offunding. Salary and benefits are competitive.
