To plan, organize, coordinate and supervise community recreation programs, to include the Family Recreation Center. To oversee daily operations of the Family Recreation Center to include fitness classes, facility orientation, special events programming, staffing and maintenance operation to include the replacement and servicing of equipment.


Supervises nine (9) employees and provides guidance to various special interest instructors and volunteers.


Coordinates and supervises recreation staff in the development and implementation of community recreation and fitness programs.

Assists in the planning and management of any concession- related activities for recreational activities and events, including design, layout, operation, inventory, contracting and staffing, to include the day- to-day staffing of the Family Recreation Center.

Selects, plans and implements cultural arts, physical activities and special interest activities.

Responds to public inquiries, complaints, or concerns about recreation programs or Family Recreation Center made by telephone, correspondence, or during public meetings.

Prepares a marketing plan and components for recreation programs.

Coordinates, schedules and maintains records and statistics for the Community Center and Family Recreation Center.

Facilitates day to day operations of the Family Recreation Center to include fitness programming, fitness center operations, child care operations, and special events programming.

Coordinates community access program pertaining to the Family Recreation Center.

Manages annual memberships sold and generating revenue projections based on memberships sold.

Schedules and maintains all building and equipment maintenance and a facility inventory program for the Family Recreation Center.

Coordinates all aspects of special event organization, including volunteer recruitment for recreation activities.

Possesses and maintains a valid driver's license and comply with City of Killeen driving policy.

Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

Performs others duties, as assigned.


Education and Experience:

(A) Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in recreation, education, business administration or related field of study with two (2) years recreation experience including recreation programming; or

(B) Associates degree in recreation, education, business administration, or related field of study with four (4) years recreation experience including recreation programming; or

(C) High School Diploma with six (6) years recreation experience including recreation programming.

(D)Two years' experience in a supervisory capacity.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

(A) Considerable knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning and administration; considerable knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program;

(B) Ability to maintain confidential information;

(C) Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment;

(D) Ability to develop, coordinate and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program;

(E) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public;

(F) Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.

(G) Ability to draft and finalize extensive marketing materials.

(H) Ability to skillfully motivate a team of service providers.

Supplemental Information:SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid driver's license by date of hire.

Must obtain and maintain a Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire.

Must obtain Certified Pool Operator license (CPO) within six months of hire.

Must obtain Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) designation within one year of date of hire.
