OverviewThe Operating Engineer operates boilers and controls generation of a continuous supply of steam for heating and air conditioning for supplying power to machinery and auxiliary equipment such as the Laundry, Dietary and sterilizers. Operates valves and controls to change building from heating to cooling. Tours boiler room and associated equipment rooms to observe operating equipment, meters, gauges to ensure correct operation. Notifies supervisor and/or appropriate technician when major repairs or assistance is required. Records in appropriate logbooks all specified readings of meters, gauges, etc. Uses specific chemicals and reagents to test boiler and cooling tower water to maintain required residuals. Files a summary report of all activities in the daily power plant.

ResponsibilitiesPART III: POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)Addresses patient and family concerns.Makes independent decisions on corrective action of unusual conditions.Operates and maintains co generation facility including all co generation engines, emergency generator, transfer switches, electrical systems, pumps and related piping.Operates and monitors boiler room/HVAC equipment, documents readings on chillers and boiler room equipment and enters such occurrences in the boiler room log book.Performs basic computer skills to operate and troubleshoot related hospital systems maintained by the Maintenance Department.Performs chemical water test(s) on boilers, condensate systems, chiller towers and closed loop systems.Performs preventive and unscheduled maintenance on equipment such as but not limited to: HVAC equipment, air compressors, pumps, generators, boilers, water softeners, chillers, air handlers and fans.Performs repairs and is knowledgeable of various equipment associated with all hospital systems maintained by the Maintenance Department in order to provide needed support.Provides detailed documentation on preventative maintenance requests in order to establish a service history and/or record of the task performed.Works on temperature control equipment in order to provide a comfortable environment.QualificationsExperience/Education Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent preferredCurrent experience in boiler plant operations and/or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

License or Certification Requirements:

Stationery engineer's license preferred.Valid Illinois drivers licenseProof of good driving record
