MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Forestry and three (3) years of professional forestry experience. Course work must include the following four (4) courses: Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration and Forest Management; or

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Forestry and two (2) years of professional forestry experience. Course work must include the following four (4) courses: Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration and Forest Management.

Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Occasional to moderate travel required. Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

The anticipated hiring salary for this position is $36,501.66 annually.

JOB DUTIES:

Responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of all forest and ecosystem management activities on forest lands at Cecil Commerce Center and associated City of Jacksonville Preservation Project lands. Activities include, but are not limited to, forest inventory (including rare, threatened and endangered plants and animals), timber sales, reforestation, ecosystem restoration, exotic species control, all-season fire management program (including the prevention and suppression of wild land fires), road maintenance and forest recreation activities. The incumbent must be capable of working independently and cooperatively in gathering, assembling, and analyzing data which serves as the basis of making management decisions of the properties.

Provides wildfire and emergency response support as directed. Assists in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans and hazardous fuels mitigation. Assists in the enforcement of Florida’s open burning laws and regulations.

Responsible for budgetary control of Cecil Commerce Center and the associated City of Jacksonville Preservation Project lands forest management activities. Includes budget preparation and management, preparing contracts for service, handling timber sale receipts and receipts from alternative sources of income.

Maintains contact with cooperating agencies including the City of Jacksonville, Parks and Recreation Department, the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission, the Jacksonville Airport Authority, the St. Johns River Water Management District, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and various forest user and environmental groups.

Keeps abreast and knowledgeable of forestry topics, ecosystem management and laws pertaining to rare, threatened and endangered species.

Responsible for the care and maintenance of assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment. Maintains inventory of and purchases supplies as needed to accomplish assignments.
