Responsibilities

* Supervises the work of accounting technicians. Directs maintenance and control of ledgers, reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger, and preparation of required reports and analysis of accounting information.

* Provides direction and supervision over the receipt, review and processing of all types of accounting transactions.

* Ensures the proper maintenance of ledgers and records, trial balances, reconciliations, adjustments, and corrective actions.

* Oversees the development and production of special and regular accounting reports used for analysis, projection, planning, and controlling expenditures.

* Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

At the GS-7 Level: Specialized experience is defined as experience which would equip the applicant with the knowledge of maintaining accounting or financial ledgers; posting financial transactions; preparing accounting reports; reconciling accounts and working with a variety of accounting and financial automated systems.

At the GS-8 Level: Specialized Experience is defined as experience which would equip the applicant with the knowledge of reconciling accounts in accounting systems involving extensive subdivision of accounts, frequent and varied adjustments to accounts, or extensive balancing and reconciling of detailed summary accounts; or resolving problems in balancing accounts, and adjusting discrepancies; provide leadership to co-workers and employees on accounting support processing, policies, procedures, and functions in an expert capacity.

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. GS-7 level: Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-06 or higher grade in Federal Service. GS-8 level: Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-07 or higher grade in Federal Service.

Education

Substitution of Education for Experience: One full year of graduate level education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html).
