JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

The Patient Service Representative serves the Health Center as a main point of contact for patients both in person when they arrive and by phone. Communicates with patients or patients representative In a warm friendly manner to obtain information needed for scheduling and registration. Ensures that all demographic and related information is collected from patient and entered timely and accurately into the Health Centers electronic information systems. Schedules patient appointments with various providers and service lines accurately and in accordance with Health Centers policies and procedures. Enters charges for services provided in a timely and accurate manner. Answers phone calls and ensures patients needs are addressed in the appropriate manner. Interacts with all other staff of the Health Center to ensure patients needs are met in the most effective and efficient manner. Is actively involved in ensuring the efficiency of day to day patient flow. Performs check in and check out procedures as prescribed by Health Center and collects monies that are due and owing from patients.

Responsibilities:

* Schedule patient appointments

* Interacts with patients in a warm friendly manner showing respect and courteousness

* Enter data into systems accurately, completely and timely

* Determine information needed from patient for registration process and provide appropriate documentation to patient at registration

* Determine financial payment arrangements

* Verify patients insurance eligibility

* Determine patient eligibility for financial assistance programs and ensure patient is processed appropriately for program

* Determine and collect appropriate monies owed and due from patients

* Answer phone calls by the third ring

* Transfer calls to appropriate person or voice mail as directed

* Assist with Medical records requests

* Prepare and mail patient correspondence as directed

* Respond to messages left on personal voice mailbox within one business day

* Directs incoming patient and visitors to appropriate location

* Reconciles receipts and monies at end of shift in accordance with Health Centers policies

* Oversees the patient waiting area, coordinates patient movement, and reports problems or irregularities to manager

* Responsible for neatness and appearance of the waiting area

* Participates in all departmental and organizational meetings

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Work Experience:

* 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting

* Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus

The Jane Pauley Community Health Center was established in 2009 with generous support from the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township, Community Health Network and the Community Health Network Foundation. It is named after Jane Pauley, a 1968 Warren Central High School graduate who grew up in the area and is well known as the former anchor of NBC-TV's Today and Dateline programs. Pauley is also the current host of CBS Sunday Morning.
