This position is eligible for reduced tuition for most college courses for the employee, spouse and dependent child.


* May interview and hire staff and evaluate performance

* Plans and designs landscaping and grounds activities

* Insures work is accomplished according to plan and schedule

* Trains employees in grounds activities

* Troubleshoots problem areas of grounds

* Prunes trees; seeds and sods lawn areas; removes trees and shrubs; prepares flower beds and weeds, fertilizes, and waters lawn and planting areas

* Applies pesticides and herbicides to lawn

* Operates equipment such as front-end loader, dump truck, snow blower, rototiller, multi-winged mower, chain saw, backhoe, trencher, tree spade and various hand and power tools associated with landscaping

* Maintains equipment to include making repairs to machines

* Uses a computer and a variety of software to document work activities and prepare reports

* Serves as part of on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend response

* Normal work shift may be adjusted at times to ensure snow removal and similar needs are complete for academic operations


Considerable knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance and related safety practices; good knowledge of plant and soil types; horticulture and professional landscaping practices; some knowledge of supervisory practices; sprinkler system layout and design; experience operating and maintaining equipment and hand and power tools; mixing and using landscape chemicals; installing and maintaining sprinkler systems; OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by the Division of Human Resources.


This position requires the ability to demonstrate successful completion of both a physical exam, including cardiopulmonary function testing and chest x-ray, and a respirator fit test.

The person selected for this position must be able lift and carry items weighing approximately 50 pounds and be able to bend, stoop, and shovel in all types of weather, with or without reasonable accommodations.
