Your role:

In your role as an Instrumentation Engineer, you will instrument military test hardware in the areas of missile, ground, aviation, and sensor systems. Using your experience you will coordinate and support technical meetings with customers to build test instrumentation requirements and translate those requirements into working component and system designs enabling RF testing

What you'll do all day:

  • Work as part of a team of electrical engineers and technicians.
  • Use your skills at circuit design to provide component and system level designs.
  • Design, simulate, prototype, document and troubleshoot RF circuitry.
  • Support the integration of prototypes to other existing subcomponents, subsystems, and systems.
  • Support multiple projects in parallel in an environment that changes quickly in response to customer needs.
  • Communicate with an engineering team and customers to discover and develop requirements with the goal of optimizing current and future designs.
  • Mentor junior instrumentation engineers and provide guidance and advisement on instrumentation designs, troubleshoot prototype builds, and review electrical schematics.
  • Generate best practice(s) documents and document current instrumentation processes.

Minimum requirements for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and six (6) plus years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in the reading and understanding of schematic/engineering drawings.
  • Coordination skills to work with customer, technical experts, equipment suppliers, and project engineers.
  • Past experience in successfully mentoring junior engineers.
  • Experience in high-speed digital circuitry design, simulation, and prototyping.
  • Experience in the design, prototyping, and test of radio frequency (RF) circuitry including filters, antennas, and amplifiers.
  • Hands-on experience in the design, parts selection, prototyping, and test of analog and digital circuitry.
  • Hands-on ability to include the ability to work with very small items such as surface mount devices (SMD) components using a microscope.
  • Experience with general electronic maintenance tools including soldering iron, multi-meter, oscilloscope, and circuit layout and design software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and TEAMS).
  • Ability to work closely with other technicians and engineers on team based projects.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Government security clearance.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Desired skills and experience for this position:

  • Active Secret Security Clearance
  • Understanding methodology and practical implementation of Radio Frequency (RF) hardening of test instrumentation.
  • Understanding of Army E3 requirements including knowledge of standards such as MIL-STD-464 and MIL-STD-461.
  • 5 plus years’ experience in the design, prototyping, and test of radio frequency (RF) circuitry including filters, antennas, and amplifiers.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553, ARINC429, Ethernet, and video/audio standards
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of an instrumentation lab.
  • Experience in the operation of specialized E3 test equipment to include Spectrum analyzers and Network analyzers.
  • Experience programming custom software for use in test instrument control and data acquisition, utilizing C++, VBA, MATLAB, etc.
  • Experience with FPGA and microprocessor programming.
  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of high power RF amplifiers and high voltage power supplies.
