The engineer/scientist will be responsible for the development and qualification of materials to be considered for use on NASA's SLS Boosters. Duties will include materials support to design group, test plan generation, work instruction development, planning control, data collection and analysis, evaluation and reporting, project engineering support and test report documentation. The engineer/scientist will be required to communicate (verbal and written) with customers, engineers, management and technicians to convey relevant information in a timely manner.

This position is for a strong candidate with a willingness to adapt to the changing environments of technology development. Ideal candidates should be able to work in a team environment with engineers, providing ideas and recommendations on improving testing/processing, operation and maintenance of the test facility.

An engineer/scientist is required to provide daily support to the production of Solid Rocket Test Motor production for the Non-Metallic Materials Branch at MSFC.

Educational requirements are BS in Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering.

* Direct experience with the design, development, manufacture and testing of material systems is required.

* Direct experience in the application of statistical analysis, certification, and Design of Experiments methodology is preferred.

* Experience with product/process improvement methodologies is preferred. Direct experience with the use of plasma spray technology to conduct thermal testing of phenolic composites, solid rocket motor insulation (rubber) and ablative materials is preferred.

* Experience with product/process improvement methodologies is preferred.

* Candidate should be experienced with developing and executing detailed work/test instructions and be able to facilitate equipment trouble shooting both developing procedures and documenting findings.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively interface with customers, technicians and management.

* The ability to develop technical papers/presentations and deliver to potential lab customers and at conferences is preferred.
