Abaco is hiring a Commodity Manager with electronics experience to work at our Huntsville, Alabama manufacturing facility. To be successful in this position you must be able to work with engineering, electronics distribution, component manufacturers and non-franchised distributors to resolve part shortages.

Key Objectives:

  • Focal point of escalation of problematic part shortages with electronic distribution and component manufacturers.
  • Drive YOY cost reduction through negotiations with electronic distribution partners and with electronic component manufactures. In addition, work with engineering to identify cost reduction through changing product design / manufacturers
  • Drive YOY improvement in quality and delivery by working with the key suppliers to achieve World Class levels in quality and delivery
  • Drive YOY improvement in working capital by implementing demand pull techniques with suppliers so inventory will arrive as needed. In addition, work with suppliers to optimize payment terms
  • Facilitate sales growth through support of New product introduction to achieve successful launch of products

Essential Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Perform escalation of critical part shortages with electronic distribution and component manufacturers through consistent and direct contact until shortage has been resolved. Work with engineering and non-franchised distributors as appropriate to resolve shortages
  • Develop cost reduction plan and implement actions to achieve savings. Monitor Purchase Price Variance and work to minimize inflationary leakage
  • Conduct and lead monthly meetings with key suppliers that focus on continuous improvement in quality and delivery – support manufacturing facilities to ensure suppliers are engaged in providing commitment for improvement
  • Develop Kanban / VMI pull systems with suppliers. Negotiate contract and framework with supplier. Ensure proper implementation and monitor progress before turning over to tactical buyers
  • Support of new products - maintain constant contact with Product Management, Engineering, and Program Management to stay abreast of all development activities
  • Facilitate the success development and launch of new product with concern to Supply Chain activities
  • Coordinate the procurement of all Pre-Serial production materials to ensure their availability for engineering builds while maintaining trace-ability.
  • Ensure that all SAP system parameters as setup to ensure that the plant level buyers and planners are successful in planning orders and procuring material.
  • Coordinate an effective hand off of new products to the plant level planners and buyers with a sign-off.
  • Support of corporate supply chain initiatives as required
  • Attend all product and program reviews and report out as needed
  • Travel on occasion an estimated 4-6 times per year

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering/business related field or 5-7 years of experience working in electronics commodity
  • 2 or more years in contract administration desired
