Test and Verification Engineer, Portable Life Support System (PLSS)

NASA's Mission Operations for the International Space Station is located at Johnson Space Center. On Jacobs' JETS contract we provide engineering services to JSC. Come join us and be a vital part of operating the largest space station ever built. We're looking for a Test and Verification Engineer on the Portable Life Support System (PLSS).

The candidate selected for this critical role will:

* Perform project engineering and test functions for the development, procurement, manufacturing, testing, and certification of PLSS components for use in the next generation space suit.

* Define, develop, and build new test rigs for the evaluation of PLSS hardware such as linear actuators, pressure and temperature transducers, and other components.

* Develop documentation for the systems including assembly procedures, test plans, detailed test procedures, and summarize the test results.

* Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures within flight hardware, development test articles, or test support hardware.

* Select and apply engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and complexity.

* Perform other duties as required.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

* BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) to thirteen (13) years of related engineering experience, or an MS degree from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years to eleven (11) years of related experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and zero (0) to eight (8) years of direct engineering experience.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.

* Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, environmental testing.


* Familiarity with National Instruments data acquisition hardware and LabView.

* Experience with flight hardware, life support systems, or Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU).

* Familiarity with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).


Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
