SBM Offshore is currently recruiting for a contract Sr. Naval Architecture Designer.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Sr. Naval Architecture Designer applies technical knowledge to all design aspects and produces a fit for purpose and constructable design. The Naval Architecture Designer ensures application of best practices and is accountable to the Discipline Manager and/or Discipline Lead for overall performance. You are to produce fit for purpose designs according to Company, industry and client standards.

  • The Sr. Naval Architecture Designer may act as Lead Designer for assigned projects.

ROLE CONTRIBUTION:

  • In order to develop the design successfully within agreed scope and schedule YOU ARE TO:
  • 1. Utilize technical knowledge and software tools to clearly depict the design that can be easily and correctly interpreted by others
  • 2. Communicate with Engineers and/or Lead Designer to ensure design intent is understood to avoid rework
  • 3. Plan and deliver assigned tasks accurately within the agreed time frame.
  • 4. Prioritize activities and effectively manage conflicting deadlines ensuring continued progress to meet the schedule. Proactively provide Lead Designer with status updates
  • 5. Organize documents and deliverables so they are easy to understand and locate
  • 6. Collaborate with Engineers and other Designers to share information, produce a high quality product, and resolve design conflicts
  • 7. Escalate unresolved issues to the Lead Designer/Engineer to minimize delays in deliverables

The measure of your effectiveness in this will be:

  • Completion of design/drawing against budget and schedule
  • Functionality/constructability/manufacturability of design
  • To ensure the quality of design deliverables YOU ARE TO:
  • 1. Be self-motivated to improve technical competencies for assigned tasks
  • 2. Understand how assigned tasks fit within the project schedule and affect other stakeholdere in meeting deadlines
  • 3. Demonstrate adaptability in implementing change while ensuring MOC procedures are used
  • 4. Ensure consistency of design and symbology. Perform self- checks to produce error-free Deliverables
  • 5. Collaborate with Package Engineers to ensure timely review of vendor documents and that comments are made with the required quality level
  • 6. Comply with project scope, work instructions, specifications, codes, industry standards and regulations per project requirements

The measure of your effectiveness in this will be:

  • Cost of Non-Quality
  • Demonstrated understanding of design impact on other disciplines
  • *If Acting as Lead Designer: In order to ensure team resources are properly allocated to meet project needs YOU ARE TO:
  • 1. Obtain agreement from Discipline Lead Engineer on appropriate resource allocation to ensure the project scope is completed per the project schedule
  • 2. Understand the technical competencies of design team members and assign work in accordance with their capabilities
  • 3. Manage Subcontractors and ensure relevant documents are reviewed timely and thoroughly
  • 4. Ensure each team member understands his/her role and responsibilities to deliver the design within the agreed budget, schedule, and quality standards
  • 5. Actively participate in all applicable project design reviews and follow through on design review action items
  • 6. Proactively interface with stakeholders to align expectations, prioritize design team activities, and resolve design conflicts
  • 7. Provide coaching and guidance as needed to team members; partner with Discipline Manager for mentoring staff as needed

The measure of your effectiveness in this will be:

  • Stakeholder feedback on team leadership
  • Evidence of support on staff improvement/development
  • Timely closure of interface issues

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Expert authority for company
  • Recommended at least 10 years of experience as a designer
  • Excellent technical knowledge and overview within his discipline
  • Should be fully competent in the use of in the use of relevant software.
  • 5+ years AutoCad experience designing ship structures
  • Experience with FPSO conversions a plus
  • FPSO conversion experience with either FEED or EPC a plus

Headquartered in West Houston's Energy Corridor, the Houston Execution Center of SBM Offshore offers a 4-1/2 day workweek and a congenial work environment.
