DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide technical assistance in the administration and supervision of design and construction for Infrastructure Capital Improvement Projects. Assist with preparation and review of design/construction contracts, plans, specifications, technical reports, invoices and pay estimates, supplemental agreements or appropriations, change orders, request for information and request for council action. Attend and participate with design/construction progress meetings and on-site field observations/inspections. Assist with coordination and management of design consultants and construction contractors. Investigate and respond to inquiries by other City of Houston departments, consultants, agencies, contractors and the general public.
Will require standing, walking, and include whatever means necessary to climb stairs and the ability to perform and negotiate field hazards.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires graduation from and approved curriculum in Engineering by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers with satisfactory standing;
Requires graduation from and Engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board, and passage of the eight - hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board.
Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in design, construction, and project management. Strong communication skills, decision oriented, problem solving attitude and computer skills will be preferred.
- Ideal candidate will have a degree concentration in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
