Position Description

Harris County Public Library - Crosby Branch

The Branch Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating the daily operations of the Library Branch; implementing and interpreting library policies for library users and staff; supervising and motivating staff and models; promoting exceptional customer service; and engaging the community to ensure services meet customer needs and align with library strategies. The Branch Manager serves as a liaison between Library Administration, other branches, and staff; monitors current strategic objectives to develop future library services and programs; and exemplifies the high standards and expectations for the library system in its daily operations and services.

JOB DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interviews, trains, supervises, schedules, coaches, mentors, and evaluates staff.
  • Identifies library needs in the community and plans and provides services and programs to meet community needs.
  • Develops and manages the branch's planned expenditures, including gift funds, when applicable.
  • Develops and maintains rapport with community organizations, including local Friends of the Library organization.
  • Oversees the development of an engaging and attractive library collection through awareness of current literature.
  • Prepares reports and compiles and analyzes branch statistics as needed.
  • Attends staff and administrative meetings, activities, and/or professional conferences, and actively serves on committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Master of Library Science degree from an ALA or AASL accredited school
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Librarian experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
  • Proficient with Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instragram, etc.)
  • Proficient with the Internet and Office 365

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This is a largely sedentary role; however, some duties will require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This job typically operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • At times, work can be performed in an outdoor environment with possible exposure to inclement weather, various temperature changes, or dangerous or aggressive/adverse populations.

HOURS:

  • 40 hours a week
  • Includes Days, Evenings, Nights, and Weekends

SALARY:

  • $29.09 Per Hour
  • Paid Biweekly
  • Based on 26 Pay Periods

Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
