The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting job opportunity as an Administrative Assistant located in Houston, TX to join the North American Commercial Packing and Specialty Plastics department. Primary responsibilities include providing administrative and office professional support to assigned Managers in the Commercial function as well as department members. The successful candidate will be a vital member of both the Administrative Team and the Commercial Department.

Key responsibilities include:

* Preparing letters, documents, reports and/or presentations using various software packages. Ensure that the resulting work products are accurate and professional.

* Organizing, creating, and maintaining other data management systems.

* Managing coordination of calendars in Microsoft Outlook which includes but is not limited to, planning and scheduling of meetings and coordinating meeting logistics (conference room scheduling, meals and team activities). Includes independently responding to requests on behalf of the leader.

* Coordinating global travel planning including acquiring visas, obtaining ES&S approvals, finalizing travel itineraries and related activities for individuals and groups.

* Providing support for accounting and expense reporting as needed.

* Handling mail, faxes, shipping, and other department requirements.

* Handling highly confidential information regarding business, personnel and customer/supplier relationships.

* Supporting department's personnel procedures and policies and entering payroll information.

* Managing projects in areas of responsibility.

* Coaching others in building administrative skills.

* Providing backup support to the P&SP Office Professionals

* Completing site requirements, including compliance and other training for position, as required.

* Attending meetings, as needed, to keep minutes, action items, and assisting with the facilitation of the overall meeting process.

* Processing all work order requests for office/conference room repair.

* Processing paperwork for Dow guest/visitors – including setting up guest wireless accounts.

Required Qualifications:

* 3 or more years of experience in an Administrative support role. The experience must include supporting at least one person, calendar management, setting up meetings, etc.

* Proficiency and effectiveness in using Microsoft Office Products, to include proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

* Adept typist plus knowledge of standard formats for general correspondence.

* Ability to operate office machines and phone systems.

* Experience with handling confidential information.

* Proactive approach in planning for various needs and requirements of work group - including an awareness of the responsibilities of group members.

* Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills are essential.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills.

* Good interpersonal skills are required.

* Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.

* Demonstrate leadership skills - inspire others and lead them through influence.

* A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.

* Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

* Must be able to do the following with or without a reasonable accommodation.

* Must be willing and able to work in such environments with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

* A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Associate or higher degree in a related field such as Business or Office Management and/or Administrative Support.

* Experience providing support for accounting and expense reporting.

* Experience in managing travel logistics, with preference for experience coordinating international travel logistics, as well as acquiring visas.


* A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.

* Associate's degree in relevant field such as Business, Office Management and/or Administrative Support preferred.
