Manager of Mechanical Engineering - Hunterdon Country, New Jersey

My Client is a rapidly growing, global supplier of critical power conversion technology to the medical, semiconductor, and scientific markets is looking for Mechanical Engineering Manager to join their innovative and highly collaborative team.

In this role of Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will have responsibility for managing the Mechanical Design and Drafting group. This group is responsible for designing and documenting sheet metal, PCB layouts, wire harnessing, and all associated manufacturing drawings. Our Client designs and manufactures high voltage power supplies from 500V to 500kV.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Mechanical designers, PCB designers, and draftspersons, ensuring quality and timeliness.
  • Create and verify sheet metal fabrication, assembly drawings and mechanical bills of materials.
  • Design and model power supplies with associated internal sub-assemblies including 3D models, PCB footprints, and harnessing for proper fit and function.
  • Create and verify sheet metal fabrication, assembly drawings and mechanical bills of materials.
  • Participate in regular design reviews.
  • Prepare the scope of work for each project that includes NRE, budgetary factory costs and project timelines.
  • Prepare mark-ups of BOM and related drawings for ECO processing.
  • Select and approve materials and supplies for quality and conformance to specifications.
  • Establish an effective and efficient work sequence and schedules.
  • Develop standardized design criteria across all product lines.
  • Specify and maintain mechanical design tools and software.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and cross-departmental meetings to ensure collaboration and consistency

Key Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • At least 8 years of relevant work experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in an engineering leadership role.
  • Electronic packaging experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of CAD software and drafting procedures including PADS, SolidWorks, AutoCAD and 3D modelling.
  • Working knowledge of design for manufacturability.
  • Experience with MS Office, Excel, Word.
  • Excellent prioritization and project development skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills.
  • Some experience with Adobe Illustrator is a plus.
  • Familiar with IBM System 36/AS400/I5 and/or Mapics is a plus.
