Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and must possess a valid Class "C" driver's license from NC.

This position performs technical payroll and accounting duties in support of the city.

Major Duties

Processes weekly Accounts Payable check runs. Reviews approved invoices from City departments, verifies account coding, and calculates sales tax portion of invoice. Keys invoice data to create weekly check run and prints/mails checks to vendors. Processes manual Accounts Payable checks as needed.

Monitors incoming invoices for available discounts with early payment incentives.

Maintains accurate financial records relating to weekly Accounts Payable check run and other related report filings.

Researches all vendor statements with past due invoices; contacts vendors for invoice copies and forwards to responsible departments.

Creates detailed departmental expense spreadsheets to key for vendor payments.

Maintains Accounts Payable log with weekly check run totals and check numbers.

Processes employee travel and training requests and maintains filing system.

Provides back up assistance to Payroll Accounting Technician with weekly and bi-weekly payroll processing. Assists with printing and disbursing weekly and bi-weekly payroll checks to departments.

Performs periodic internal inventories and audits as required by auditors.

Assists in year-end close out processes and annual financial statement preparation.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Knowledge of Accounts Payable and Payroll processing and governmental accounting.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of computerized financial information management.

Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws and regulations, city ordinances, and department policies and procedures.

Participates proactively in improving performance at the organizational, departmental, and individual levels.

Ability to maintain integrity, confidentiality, and resolve issues with tact and diplomacy.

Skill in operating office equipment such as a computer and calculator.

Knowledge of Excel, Word, and Windows applications.

Communicates professionally with strong written and oral communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred applicant should have a minimum of 2 years of Accounts Payable experience sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position and an associate's degree or equivalent training and education.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North

Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Ability to be bonded.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office.
