Job Summary: The Registered Nurse is an essential member of the UPMC Pinnacle health care team who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and coordinating the total care of patients. Through collaboration with all members of the patient care team, the Registered Nurse utilizes evidence-based nursing care standards to diagnose and treat the human response of the patient and family to illness and disease process, continuously monitoring, analyzing, and improving the performance of clinical activities. The Registered Nurse is self-directed, empowered, and accountable for the direct supervision of all team members and recognizes the importance of interpersonal skills in delivery of care to internal and external customers.

Job Requirements: Graduate Nurse of a professional school of Nursing with a current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse license. Effective September 1, 2014, BSN required within 4 years of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or successful completion of BLS training and certification upon hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within one year of hire in the following areas: Emergency, ICU, Cardiac Telemetry (WS3, CG4, M6, M7). Pediatrics Advanced Life Support within one year of hire in Emergency and Pediatrics. Neonatal Resuscitation Program within one year of hire in Labor & Delivery, NICU, Maternity and Antepartum. National Institute of Health Stroke Scale certification within 90 days of hire in the following areas: HHMSICU, WSICU, CGICU, Emergency, HHM10, WS4, CG2. Effective October 1, 2017, inpatient acute care registered nurses in non- magnet hospitals under UPMC Pinnacle with 20 years of RN experience or more are exempt from the requirement to achieve their BSN. Inpatient acute care Registered Nurses with less than 20 years of RN experience are required to obtain their BSN within 10 years from October 1, 2017. All existing nurse leaders in non-magnet facilities are required to obtain their BSN within 5 years as of the effective date of October 1, 2017. When moving into a nurse leadership role at a non-magnet hospital all RNs, regardless of years of experience, will be required to obtain their BSN within 5 years from the effective date of the transfer/promotion to leadership and will not be grandfathered.

Preferred Qualifications: Certification in specialty preferred.
