Keep assigned public buildings in clean and orderly condition.

Examples of Duties

Sweep, mop, wax floors, and operate buffing machines; vacuum carĀ¬pets, wash windows; dust and polish woodwork and furniture.

Empty trash and garbage containers; pick up paper and debris from the grounds of public buildings.

Clean restrooms and replenish necessary supplies.

Notify management concerning the need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.

Ensure that municipal buildings are properly locked and secured daily.

Notify supervisor of the need for necessary supplies in order to successfully perform the job.

Perform related duties as required Typical Qualifications

Ability to understand and follow oral directions; some experience in the cleaning and maintaining of commercial buildings preferred; ability to operate a variety of general cleaning machines such as vacuums, buffers, and polishers; and ability to perform physically demanding work. May be required to possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license and have a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.

Requires successfully completion of a background investigation related to the position.

Supplemental Information

Perform duties under general supervision. May require shift work, weekends and holidays. Work is routine and involves the use of some skills acquired by experience or on the-job instruction. This position is nonexempt.
