About the Position

The Student Firefighter receives training and performs firefighting duties and emergency medical care related to preventing and suppressing fires and saving of life and property. This position is intended to provide on-the-job experience and reimbursement of tuition per program requirements.

This recruitment is a joint recruitment with local area agencies for the position of Student Firefighter. Please follow the links below to Rogue Community College to complete the application process. On the application you will have the opportunity to select which agency is your preference.

Application process closes June 1, 2018. Voluntary physical orientation is June 9, 2018. If selected, the physical agility test will be on June 16, 2018. Interviews will be on June 23, 2018.

For the City of Grants Pass Student Firefighter program, Students would be starting on September 4, 2018.

Minimum Qualifications

* Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

* Valid Oregon Driver's License

* High School Diploma or GED

* Student must enroll in either the Fire Science or Emergency Medical Technology Associate Degree Program at Rogue Community College and carry a minimum of nine to a maximum of 18 credit hours per Fall, Winter and Spring academic terms and a minimum of six to a maximum of twelve credit hours during the Summer term.

* Students must maintain a cumulative 2.5 grade point average per term and maintain an acceptable attendance record.

* Copy of Driver's License

* If applying for just the Student Firefighter - submit proof of having successfully attended a Firefighter I Academy.

* Completed Tell Us About You Form

* Copies of any Related Certifications

* Certificate of Release/Discharge from Active Duty Armed Forces or USCG

Ranking and Selection

The ranking and selection of applicants to proceed in the process includes: review of application materials and meeting minimum qualifications of the position. The initial selection process for this position includes the following steps: application review, and written testing, physical agility and oral interview. The final selection process following interview includes the following steps: tentative offer, driving history check, criminal history check, background investigation, reference check, drug testing, and final offer.
