SUMMARY

The mission of the Senior Student Services Advisor is to oversee the Student Services functions for students in need of assistance and provide student services support to the campus management team, Academic Dean, instructional staff, and the entire student body with respect to providing prompt problem resolution designed to meet campus benchmarks and goals. To accomplish this mission the Senior Student Services Advisor will work with his/her team: 1) maintain a comprehensive listing of off-campus referral series and points of contact; 2) assist with maintaining a written retention plan that meets the benchmarks and goals established in the annual budget and as set forth in the Campus Operations Plan; 3) monitor student absenteeism and effect a specific and directed intervention plan; 4) may take the lead in the re-entry process through direct and positive leadership; and 5) implement and coordinate campus student activities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Improve student retention by monitoring student performance, analyzing problem areas, recommending solution, and conducting intervention activities and processes
  • Achieve the budgeted retention and re-entry goals for the campus
  • Meet with and advise students concerning consecutive absence issues and effect satisfactory resolutions
  • Direct assistance for students in obtaining information, contact and resolution in the areas of: childcare, transportation, financial advisement, protective and legal aid series, and effective study/tutoring services
  • May provide additional oversight on re-entry program, including enrollment process, attendance, scheduling issues, probation, and academic success plans
  • Serve as an effective liaison between faculty and students and coordinate advising activities
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the school catalog and college policies and best practices
  • Develop and oversee campus activities to foster the development of student community
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide regular activity reports and audit reports to the DSA and other designated managers
  • Be committed to inter-departmental cooperation
  • Maintain an attitude of enthusiasm and cooperation and demonstrate the ability to work well with others
  • Participate in professional growth and development activities
  • Actively participate in assigned projects and activities as business conditions require
  • Represent the Student Affairs department at campus meetings in the absence of the Director of Student Affairs

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • May supervise Re-entry Advisor and Student Services Advisor, if applicable.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2-3 years of high level experience in Student Services, conflict resolution and student recruitment
  • Must be experienced in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Successful experience managing a department with an emphasis on crisis intervention
  • Requires strong oral communication skills and time management
  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the art of human dynamics
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to adhere to deadlines
  • Some knowledge and understanding of effective department budgets and cost controls
  • Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the English language

OTHER COMMENTS/REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires frequent physical mobility throughout the school complex. Work is fast paced and challenging and can be stressful at times.
