Brief Job Description

The Development Services Technician II is the first point of contact to assist internal and external customers of the Development Services and Engineering Departments. This position provides customer service pertaining to development and permitting processes and procedures. Responds to inquiries both on the telephone and at a public counter based on customers' needs. Accepts all development applications including building permits, civil construction permits, and planning and zoning requests, and collects all submittal fees.

The ideal candidate will have experience with cash handling and at least two years of experience working in construction or a related field ideally in a public sector setting. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented, with excellent interpersonal skills, and possess the ability to work both independently and as a team. ICC Permit Technician Certification is preferred.

Development Services Technician II

First Year Objectives

* Within 3 months, possess the ability to assist customers, and direct calls received on the telephone for the Development Continuum (Building Safety, Planning and Zoning, and Engineering)

* Within 3 months, become proficient in working at the Development Counter assisting customers with picking up permits, and redlines

* Within 3 months, possess the ability to accurately, and efficiently complete processing cash receipts, including balancing daily batches

* Within 6 months, become proficient in processing of Permits by Email (Minor mechanical, plumbing, electrical, pools, spas, patio covers, and single family residential) within two business days of receipt using standard work

* Within 6 months, possess the ability to accurately and efficiently accept and process planning and zoning applications at the Development Counter using standard work

* Within 12 months, become proficient in accurately and efficiently accepting and processing building safety and planning and zoning applications at the Development Counter (Submittal) using standard work

* Within 12 months, become proficient in processing Engineering applications (Dry utility, traffic control, and civil construction permits) using the electronic plan review database and Outlook using standard work

* Within 12 months, become proficient independently assisting homeowners, business owners, contractors, engineers, and architects at the public counter (Submittal and pick-up), over the phone, and in writing with code requirements, processes, and development application submittal requirements
