Head Start is a no cost, comprehensive, child-focused and family-centered preschool program for children ages 3-5. A range of individualized services in the areas of education, early childhood development, medical, dental, mental health, nutrition, family support, and parent education and training provided to children and families.

The Kitchen Aide will be assisting with meal preparation for Head Start children and scholol-wide events.

Will be scheduled to work approximately 25-30 hrs/wk, up to 130 hours per month, Monday--Friday between the hours of 6:00am and 5:00pm, as well as occasional evening child-care.

This position is temporary (summers off), with the possibility of renewal each school year. No benefits are included.

Essential Duties:This position is responsible for assisting with meal preparation for Head Start children. This includes, but is not limited to: assisting Chef in preparing and portioning food according to the Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines, taking the temperature of foods and assuring food safety standards are met, operating large-scale food service equipment, and making accommodations for special diets. Other duties include maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen and storage areas, including, but not limited to, dishes, equipment/tools, walk-ins, refrigeration, freezers, dry storage, and laundry. Attend and participate in all staff meetings, trainings and events; assist with the preparation of food and needed set-up and clean-up for school-wide events, including some evenings. Maintains a smooth flow of service and works closely with co-workers to assure that the students, staff and families have a pleasurable dining experience. Reads and responds to emails and other communications. Occasional child-care for Head Start children will also be required and adherence to all Head Start Policies and Procedures and Performance Standards, as well as any other local, state and/or federal laws.

Qualifications:High School Diploma or GED required, experience in food service preferred. Basic math skills, excellent customer service skills, awareness of local, state and federal food safety and sanitation laws, understanding of proper use and maintenance of major kitchen equipment and commitment to quality service.

Must pass background check. Must have training on: universal precautions, the Child and Adult Care Food Program, and food safety certification within the first 30 days of hire. Must obtain physical examination and tuberculosis test at hire. Must be able to carry/lift loads greater than 35 pounds, and transport up to 50 pounds on occasion. 100% of time standing and walking. Must be available to work occasional evenings when necessary. Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are preferred.
