Summary: The Associate Director of Financial Aid reports to the Director of Financial Aid at the main campus, with a dotted line of responsibility to the Assistant Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid and Assistant Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, the Associate Director of Financial Aid is responsible to provide leadership and direction for staff in the daily operations of the Division of Global Learning and Partnership's Financial Aid staff.

Rowan Global Learning and Partnerships, formerly the College of Graduate & Continuing Education (CGCE), is Rowan University's vehicle to reach out and serve the needs of college students, working adults, lifelong learners, and the business community. Students enrolled in our academic programs include college graduates pursuing master's or doctoral programs and returning college students pursuing the completion of a baccalaureate degree or certification. In addition, Rowan Global provides a large portfolio of non-credit services and products, including professional development, continuing education units, corporate training, and personal enrichment.

Position Description:

The Associate Director will be responsible for the development and execution of the training and management of the professional Financial Aid staff. This individual will oversee the administration and certification of Federal, State, and Institutional Aid, students enrolled in Rowan Global graduate and undergraduate academic programs, and students enrolled in 3+1 programs at partner institutions. The Associate Director will bring the experience necessary to cultivate effective relationships with students, families, and other key offices at the university. This individual will work closely with the University's Financial Aid Director and other senior staff to provide strategic direction and guidance in promoting a culture of service excellence and leads the development and delivery of outreach. This individual will also serve as the department liaison which includes the coordination and management of online financial literacy and communications material, and other goals of the office. The Associate Director will also provide strategic leadership in the management of Rowan Global's scholarship program.

Essential Position Responsibilities/Functions:

Under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid at the main campus and a dotted line report to the Assistant Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs, the Associate Director of Financial Aid is responsible to accomplish the following:

* Provide outstanding customer service, and counsel students and parents on financing education for Rowan Global academic programs and 3+1 programs at partner institutions, while demonstrating patience by communicating in a professional and sensitive manner to families and students who are seeking financial aid.

* Supervises staff in support of the daily operations for financial aid at Rowan Global and satellite campuses.

* Use project management skills to direct oversight of all institutional scholarship programs and confirm administrative policies and procedures are in compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations.

* Works with University Director, related departments, and all University Financial Aid staff to ensure quality implementation and delivery of financial aid within specified goals and objectives.

* Oversees the timing and reporting of Return to Title IV calculations; reports payments, repayments and overpayments to the Common Origination and Disbursement Program and to the National Student Loan Data System; makes adjustments for refunds through the Federal Student Loan program.

* Counsels financial aid recipients with financial aid eligibility, Satisfactory Academic Progress, scholarship opportunities, entrance/exit counseling loan requirements, Professional Judgement appeals, summer aid opportunities, federal/state verifications, withdrawal process, financial hardship situations/planning, federal/institutional work study, unemployment tuition waivers, study abroad, testing waivers and special programs offered such as 3+1 and Rowan Choice.

* Assist with troubleshooting and workflow; create and maintain policies and procedures for online and non-traditional programs.

* Contribute as a member of the Financial Aid Team and the Graduate Admissions Team and assist colleagues with high volume processing when necessary.

* Work closely with financial aid processing team to implement changes, streamline processes, prioritize technological needs, and manage projects.

* Ensure processing of federal and private loan programs is accurate for caseload.

* Develop and conduct presentations, participate in programs, and university committees.

* Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

* A minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional financial aid experience.

* Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, needs analysis, student budgets, financial aid packaging, professional judgment policies, debt management, federal and state grants, scholarships, direct and alternative loan programs.

* Experience managing personnel including supervising, training, and evaluating staff.

* In-depth knowledge of financial aid processing systems, applications, and verification procedures.

* Technical aptitude with strong analytical and quantitative skills.

* Experience in utilizing Banner to administer a financial aid program.

* Experience in utilizing Microsoft Applications and electronic reporting processes.

* Experienced with managing scholarship portfolios (endowed, annual, institutional and alumni scholarship sources), and knowledge of forecasting is a plus.

* Effective interpersonal/counseling skills are required.

* Effective presentation skills.

* Excellent customer service skills.

* Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete various projects within designated deadlines.

* Strong administrative and leadership abilities as a professional staff member are required.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey information in person and through electronic communications.

* Strong project management skills; organizational skills for planning and prioritizing work.

* Exemplary attention to detail.

* Strong understanding of the adult/non-traditional learner market Is a requirement of this position.

* Ability to travel to satellite campuses and/or partner institutions.

* Ability to work evenings and weekends when needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
