Responsibilities

* This posItion is for a Single Beam Hydrographic Surveyor in Galveston, Texas. Some SSS or MB work will be requested, but primary work will be Single Beam..

* Determine requirements for shoal removal in accordance with the specified tolerances; inspect contractor operations to determine if terms of contract are met.

* Develop plans and specifications to return the area to authorized dimensions in order to develop plans and specifications.

* Conducts surveys before, during, and after completion, to determine if dredging operations are sufficient to the terms of the contract and meet requirements for payment.

* Check and analyze details and drawings of ship channels and/or areas surveyed to determine whether the design and drawings are complete and correct and if specifications conform to requirements.

* Performs installation, maintenance, modification, inspection and testing of complex electronic positioning systems and automated data acquisition systems installed on board a vessel.

* You will independently plan, conduct, and coordinate hydrographic surveys to determine conditions of one or more major navigation channels.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience:

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience completing moderately difficult and complex survey work; and preparing monthly contract reports and estimates. OR

have a master's or equivalent degree or have completed two full years of graduate level education leading to such a degree as Engineering.

OR Combination: some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have more than one year but less than two years of education as described in B. Compute the percentage of the requirements met and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond one year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
