Responsibilities

The candidate will perform atomic resolution scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) imaging and patterning in a UHV environment. The position includes UHV system design, assembly, and testing expertise to ensure vacuum levels in the 1x10-11 torr range including UHV gas phase doping. The candidate will analyze UHV STM data for atomic patterning of H terminated silicon samples. The candidate will perform silicon UHV processing to ensure atomic order and H termination for atomic patterning. The candidate will use Scanning Kelvin/Capacitance Microscopy and atomic force microscopy to image buried dopant devices and determine GDS files and co-ordinates for ebeam patterning. The candidate will perform extensive clean room processing and develop metal silicide contacts, ebeam patterning, etching, and metallization processes for feature dimensions down to 30 nm.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.

In addition to the basic requirements applicants must also have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 (ZP-II at NIST) level. Specialized Experience is defined as experience in ultra and extreme high vacuum (UHV) processes and equipment, experience in operating a scanning tunneling microscope, UHV film growth equipment, silicon processing for atomically ordered silicon surfaces, and extensive clean room and ebeam patterning experience.

Master's or equivalent graduate degree

A combination of education and experience.
