Description

The Appian Developer is responsible for working in a team environment supporting Appian platform applications. This position will work within an applications development and maintenance team and assist in building Appian solutions to address business needs by developing and maintaining Appian applications using mature programming methodologies. adherence to coding standards, procedures and techniques is considered a key attribute in this role.

Responsibilities

Analysis and Design

  • Participate in requirements elicitation, design process, design reviews and construction with peers as part of a project team
  • Analyze business requirements and develop technical requirements
  • Design application modules, workflows and catalog requests
  • Works with business users to translate business requirements into technical designs to map and load data from source systems to the data warehouse.

Application, Development and Testing

  • Work with other Appian developers to deliver a solution using a combination of record types, interfaces, process models, custom data types, expression rules, reports, etc. Understand the differences between REST, SOAP and the basic design principles in integrating to Web Services
  • Problem Solver and ability to estimate and size Appian business requirements
  • Debug issues in Interfaces and Process Models
  • Provide guidance to business analysts regarding the implementation complexity of their designs to aid the stakeholder in deciding which approach to pursue from a cost/benefit perspective
  • Demonstrate periodically to the team during daily stand-ups features as you complete them
  • Participate in all agile-based ceremonies, to include assisting the team with story estimation
  • Execute unit tests and integration tests against your changes
  • Check code into a DevOps pipeline to promote Appian objects/packages to a higher tier
  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards, as well as functional/non-functional requirements
  • Support the remediation of issues that arise in non-development environments, including production
  • Identify problems or bottlenecks and work cooperatively to eliminate them
  • Identify those who we impact and meet with them to create mutual success
  • Prioritize work each day so that the most important tasks are completed
  • Quickly address problems and conflicts in a productive manner

Support and Maintenance

  • Monitor application health
  • Coordinate Appian upgrades and assist with the testing effort following all Appian upgrades
  • Troubleshoot production issues identified through trouble tickets
  • Stay abreast of ongoing Appian platform enhancements and assessing where new Appian feature sets could be leveraged

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science OR equivalent work experience required
  • Appian Associate Developer Certification

Knowledge & Experience

  • 2 - 3 years relevant Appian experience
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Good understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and related tools
  • Experience working with modern BPMN tools (ie: Camunda)

Work Environment

  • Hybrid Work – 3 days in office, 2 days remote
  • Hybrid remote 3/2 work option
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other computer components
