GAINESVILLE FLORIDA

The incumbent in this position performs direct care duties at a specialized secure unit, serving residents who have been adjudicated incompetent to proceed to trial for alleged criminal offenses due to their intellectual disabilities.

Conducts, supervises and participates in a variety of therapy programs, including social skills, communication skills, basic academic skills, money management skills, human growth and development skills.

Assess academic skills of residents and makes recommendations regarding programming needs. Prepares resident reports for Individual Support Plans, individual program plans and resident progress notes. Prepares other resident related reports as needed. Participates in Individual Support Plan meetings, Interdisciplinary Team meetings, and other special resident related meetings as needed.

Establishes and maintains the residents’ daily schedules.

Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Use of computers and written communication.

Three years of classroom experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT(S)

A valid Florida Driver’s License. (If initially hired with an out-of-state license the Florida resident must obtain a valid Florida State driver’s license within 30-days of hire. License suspended or revoked for any reason, work permits (Business purpose/Employment/Education only license) and some types of restricted license are not acceptable. License that have “Corrective Lenses Restricted,” are acceptable, provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating the vehicle.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a health field, behavioral or rehabilitative sciences, music therapy/education, physical education or therapeutic recreation. Allied health field, Criminology, Human Science Degree, Health Science.

Substitution: Four years’ experience providing care and treatment for people with developmental disabilities.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position is located at a 24- hour facility. Working Hours: 8:00 a.m., to 5:00 p.m. Regular Days Off: Vary.

Employees of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities are required to demonstrate total commitment to outstanding customer service. This includes, but not limited to, acting in a responsive, professional, courteous manner with the employees, customers and public we serve at all times.

Possession of valid Florida Drivers' License and acceptable driving record in accordance with Tacachale policy. Maintain Advanced Prevention and Safety Strategies (PASS) certification.
