POSITION DESCRIPTION: Supervise employee by communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employee, and planning and directing employee work. Review quality control plans, construction plans, specifications, procedures and any other documents necessary to execute the Department’s mission. Provide clear comments as requested in time to be useful to the customer. Provide technical solutions when project specific plans, specifications, procedures or processes do not concur with the Department’s policies and procedures.

Perform field and/or laboratory testing in accordance with all applicable methods. Report results precisely in the appropriate database. Keep all testing equipment calibrated and in good working order.

Analyze data for contract and procedural compliance. Take timely action to correct any errors in the data. Actively facilitate the notification of stakeholders of errors, failures or negative trends.

Provide materials related technical support to customers as requested. Provide support in time to meet the customer’s needs. Provide guidance and training to customers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of structural materials used in highway construction. Knowledge of engineering design, construction, production and/or operations. Skill in operating a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Ability to analyze and interpret engineering data. Ability to solve problems relating to engineering. Ability to perform engineering inspections. Ability to apply engineering quantitative techniques. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate engineering information effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to move around construction sites and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to use engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments. Ability to supervise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience using engineering or manufacturing tools, equipment and/or instruments; and Prior experience operating a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet, and/or database applications; and Prior experience with evaluating construction materials.
