POSITION SUMMARY

This position provides the leadership, management and visionnecessary to ensure that the company has the proper operational controls,administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place toeffectively grow the organization and ensure financial strength and operatingefficiency. Individual is responsible for responsibilitiesfor operations of the heavy highway construction business, sales, estimating, asphalt production, P&L, quality control, andbusiness planning for a geographic area. Individual will work in a team-based organization with various supportgroups in the region/division and corporate offices in finance, humanresources, community and government relations, legal, marketing, procurement,safety, health & environmental, business planning, information technologyand engineering.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Oversee and manage the construction business, securing new work, manage contracts, projects and operations for civil construction projects to include roads, bridges, and utilities.

* Provide strategic leadership, direction, coaching and mentoring to the team.

* Insurethat all SHE standards and requirements are met and our facilities are managedin a safe and environmentally conscious manner;

* Preparation of annualoperating budget and developing appropriate business strategies and plans tomeet or exceed goals and objectives;

* Understanding the market dynamicsand leveraging company assets and resources to maximize return on investment;

* Building and maintaininghighly effective customer relationships with key decision makers in theorganization;

* Interact with large project contractors on infrastructure and industrial constructioncontracts.

* Manage and direct operationsconsistent with company policies and practices

* Short and long-range businessplanning to formulate strategies that exceed the market and establish the companyas a market leader;

* Build strong working relationships with peers based on trust and demonstratedsupport for the company's culture;

* Proactively promote the goals of the area, division and company to localand state government agencies and professional and trade associations;

* Implement operations-planning programs to ensure achievement of revenuegoals. Ensure strong coordinationbetween sales and operations to maximize profitability;

* Build effective, mutually beneficialrelationships with key decisions makers for large sales accounts as well ascollaborative relationships with other firms (engineers, specifiers,subcontractors, etc.) that lead to new business opportunities;

* Maintain industry leadership, company image andhigh professional standards of doing business. Represent the company to customers through trade and industryassociations. Participate in meetingswith federal, state, and local governments relating to issues which impact theindustry;

* Develop and maintain a proactive management team that focuses on achievingor exceeding business goals and objectives;

* Able to develop and implement effective cost control programs to reduceoperating costs consistent with business conditions without sacrificing humancapital;

* Establish performance goals and objectives for the area and variousfunctions. Measure results and holdindividuals accountable;

* Maintain a positive proactive work environment that fosters a high levelof employee satisfaction with open communication;

* DevelopVulcan's next generation of leaders, by ensuring that employees are properlytrained in the skills necessary for success, given opportunity for stretchassignments, and given access to training and leadership developmentopportunities;

* Facilitate the sharing of bestmanagement practices throughout all facilities;

* Other duties as assigned.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

* Local and regional travel byautomobile and periodic need to travel by airline

* Must have the ability to usecomputerized equipment and technology

* Must be able to sit for longperiods of time

* Ability to work in astressful, deadline oriented environment that requires complex, technicalinformation and decision making

* Local, regional and divisional travel by automobileand periodic travel by plane.

* Possess in depth knowledge and awareness ofconstruction, mining, asphalt, and ready mix plant site hazards.

* Will be required to wear protective gear whenworking near or on construction sites, including protection against exposure tonoise, dust and fumes as well as steel toed boots and hard hat.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS REQUIRED

Education:

* BA/BS degree in Construction, Engineeringor Business Management/ Administration

* MBA degree highly desired

Experience:

* Minimum of 10 years ofprogressively responsible work experience in heavy highway construction whichincludes supervising professional level employees as well as successful projectmanagement.

* 3-5 years' experience in amanagement role with full P&L responsibilities

* Must be an effective communicator (both verbal and written)and effectively work with a diverse group of people both internally andexternally. Present complex informationin a clear and concise manner.

* Able to work in a stressful, deadline oriented environmentthat requires complex, technical information and decision making. Ability and willingness to make appropriateand timely decisions and exhibit sound and accurate judgment.

* Possess the highest level of integrity.

* Experience in estimating of earthwork, concrete, utility, paving, structures, underground, as well as other construction operations.

* Understanding of plant operations, including aggregate plants and hot plants.

* The ability to lead expansion efforts by both Greenfield and acquisitions.

* OSHA and MSHA site safety experience

* Proficient in Heavy Highway Construction standards and procedures

* Knowledge of financial practices and economics of theconstruction business.

* Superior analytical and problem solving skills, with theability to quickly analyze and understand complex business and organizationalissues.

* Ability to quickly generate trust and develop relationshipsdue to interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, business knowledge and workethic.

* Demonstrated success as a project manager, with the abilityto successfully and efficiently manage multiple tasks, priorities, details, anddeadlines with consistently good results, often under tight time constraints.

* Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Google, Oracle BusinessEnvironment and other software packages relevant to the position.
