About the Position: Serves as a Locksmith for the Directorate of Public Works, Ft. Leavenworth, KS.

* Moving expenses MAY be authorized, based on a determination that a move is in the Government's interest.

* Creditable Service for Annual Leave Accrual for Non-Federal and Military Work Experience (for newly appointed employees only). Duties must be directly related to the position being appointed.

Responsibilities

* Perform visual and operational tests to locate problems in locking devices and determine method of repairs.

* Repair and/or replace a full range of locking devices and their component parts.

* Re-key locking devices and make new keys.

* Repair and/or replace push bar exit devices.

* Determine cause of malfunction of hydraulic based mechanism and repair automatic door closures.

* Order supplies and parts to insure sufficient inventories are available to perform repair and/or replacement duties.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Locksmith~ without more than normal supervision. Performing common repair, maintenance and installation of mechanical and electrical locking systems. Determining the extent and location of malfunctions; repairing, replacing or fabricating defective parts. Applying technical manuals, manufacturer's diagrams or specifications while repairing and/or testing the locking mechanisms. Soldering or brazing broken locking parts together, reshaping parts by grinding and filing, or fabricating parts when they are not available in stock. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

* Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision

* Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
