Summary of Duties: The Hyperbaric Safety Officer performs duties under supervision of the Medical Director, Program Coordinator, and/or Clinical Nurse Specialist as appropriate for the program. Is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems. The Hyperbaric Safety Officer is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems. In addition to performing the essential functions listed, may also be assigned other duties as required.
Education Requirements: High School Diploma or General Education Degree certificate equivalent required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements: Current certification as Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Diving Medical Technician (DMT). Interim status may be appointed until CHT or DMT certification is attained. Must be certified as a CHT or DMT within 1 year of hire. Attend an approved HBO Safety course. Attend an approved Hyperbaric Safety Director course. Complete a National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course.
Special Skills/Abilities: Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before groups. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
