Lab Technician
Location: Freeport, TX
Pay: $24 to $28 hr.
Contract: 6 months
Primary Duties:
- Execute quality initiatives and control processes aligned and complaint with company and local regulatory statues
- Ensures daily adherence to all written processes and procedures and approved departmental best practices
- Assist in process improvement, quality improvement, cost reduction, waste minimization and other efficiency increasing activities as required
- Provide technical service to both internal and external customers through the resolution of quality problems and customer complaints related
- Conduct conformance testing of in-coming materials to meet specifications
- Conduct conformance testing of out-going finished products to customer specifications
- Maintain the quality laboratory, equipment and tools, in-process, and associated quality records and systems in compliance with ISO 9000 programs and standards
- Support and fill backup role as needed for all required analytical tests on plant wastewater sumps, site wastewater systems, and regulated outfalls
- Participate in process to review, revise, and develop procedures as directed by the Quality Manager
- Initiate appropriate actions prevent non-conformances related to quality processes or quality systems
- Participate in root cause investigation and corrective action of quality excursions, customer complaints, and quality audit findings as required
- Participate in process hazard analysis (PHA) of new and existing site processes as directed by the Quality Manager
- Participate in Management of Change (MOCs) of new and existing site processes as directed by the Quality Manager or Plant Chemist
- Responsible to maintaining chemical inventory and supplies in order to support QC Laboratory needs for current and following shift
- Ensures that all methods, procedures, and instructions for the testing are routinely followed in quality testing processes
- Practice Responsible Care14001 through active participationin the Responsible Care Management System and adhere to the Guiding Principles of Responsible Care 14001
Education and Experience
- Associate of Science degree in chemical technology or closely related field desired
- Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in chemical process industry with petrochemical laboratory practices & standards are desired.
- Working knowledge of chromatography, analytical software, and basic troubleshooting skills desired
- Ability to work a 12-hour rotating or other flexible shift schedule
