About the Position: This position is located at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Rucker is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training. Recreation activities are abundant in the immediate and surrounding areas for family and fun.

Responsibilities

* Serves as the subject matter expert on hazardous work operations and facilities involving radioactive materials. Manages inventories of radioactive commodities utilized on the installation and waste material for disposal.

* Investigates, reports, and analyzes accidents making on the spot or after-the-fact investigations of incidents and accidents involving property damage or personal injury.

* Provides guidance and advice to leadership and subordinate safety professionals, resolving complex problems.

* Promotes accident prevention and analyzes operations and activities for accident predicting conditions.

* Assists in the management of the safety program, standards, procedures and techniques to provide safety services and common levels of support to tenant and satellite activities.

* Educates personnel on accident prevention and safety and health hazards.

* Manages the Explosives Safety Program, serving as the technical advisor to commanders, staffs and supervisors ensuring the installation is compliant with regulatory requirements for safe handling, storage, and transportation of ammunition/explosives.

* Develops written materials that support the safety and occupational health program for the installation and tenant activities.

* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing or implementing programs in a military environment to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses; analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards; applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures in a military environment to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements; designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards; inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards; training workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
