About the Position: This is a permanent position with the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, DCCS, Leonard Wood Medical Home at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. The normal work schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday from 0900-1800.

Responsibilities

* Perform independent, comprehensive telephone and clinical triaging, and facilities continuity of care, through a multidisciplinary approach.

* Act as relief nurse, triage and screen walk-in patients to assess the severity of the patient?s condition and the need for provider intervention.

* Screen patient charts to assess the medical history and determine health care needs.

* Recognize and report abnormal test results, changes in symptoms and the need for follow-up.

* Monitor or ensure the monitoring of patients during pre and post-procedure per established protocols and Standard Operating Procedures.

* Assist clinic with patient and staff education.

* Ensure nursing staff competencies are initially evaluated and maintained and documented in accordance with hospital and clinic policies and nursing standards of practice.

* Ensure that nursing staff maintains current licenses and certification requirements.

* Ensure staff compliance with maintenance of competency folders in accordance with hospital and Joint Commission standards.

* Coordinates patient referrals to support services provided through the internal and external community, or the TRICARE network.

* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

* Possess and maintain current nursing license in any state, commonwealth or province of the United States.

* Must possess and maintain annual Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

* Incumbent will be required to have a Hepatitis B immunization series as well as an immunization screening as a condition of employment.

* This position is covered by the Civilian Drug abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA 5019-R, and/or DA Form 7412 ?Conditions of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.

* This is an Inclement Weather Essential position: Incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

* May be required to work weekend call duties and evenings.

* Incumbent will have to pass a pre-employment physical to meet Physical Efforts requirements. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.

* A childcare background check is required for this position.

* This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.

* All employees assigned to a Medical Treatment Facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations regardless of series, based on occupational risk, and are subject to missing/required immunizations IAW AR 40-562, chapters 3 and 4.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Individual Occupational Requirement: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND

Education Requirement: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. (NOTE: You must upload a copy of your transcripts)

AND

Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) triaging the patient's condition; (2) ability to make independent judgments and decisions in the use of protocol to produce the proper diagnosis and select the appropriate level of care; and in possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, that is directly related to the work of the position. (NOTE: You must upload a copy of your transcript)

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). Applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement.
