About the Position: This is a military technician position with the US Army Reserves. Becoming a Military Technician allows you to experience the best of two worlds by taking advantage of the opportunity to become a Citizen Soldier in the US Army Reserve Military Technician program. This enables you to receive full civil service benefits and military reserve benefits. Military Technicians are a vital link between the US Army Reserves and civil service and are one of the most important keys to combat readiness.

This position is with the Army Reserve Aviation Command, Aviation Support Facility (ASF) Knox, Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Located at Ft Knox, KY, this position offers the advantage of choosing to live either in rural or urban locations. Residents enjoy a low crime rate, good schools, short commutes, and a very low cost of living. Being situated on a military installation, personnel can take full advantage of the benefits of the active military (MWR, PX, and Commissary).

Description of the working environment: Work is primarily performed in a well kept hangar which offers a clean and safe working environment.

Responsibilities

* Fabricates, lays out, forms and installs a variety of metal surfaces and structural members for aircraft.

* Examines aircraft flying surfaces and supporting sheet metal structures to determine extent of repair using applicable technical manuals.

* Removes damaged aircraft structural members and installs replacement members including beams and formers.

* Plans and lays out work using applicable work practices for repair and modification of aircraft metal parts and components.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - The business travel requirement is 10%.

* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

* This position requires membership in the US Army Reserve (USAR).

* This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment.

* This position requires an annual medical exam.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) SHEET METAL MECHANIC~ without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

* Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)

* Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work

* Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging)

* Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation)

Physical effort: Makes repairs from ladders, scaffolds and toeboards and where parts worked on are in hard to reach places that require climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items that weigh up to 20 pounds and occasionally may lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.

Working conditions: Works in well-lighted but noisy shop and outside subject to heat, cold, and inclement weather. There is continuous exposure to disagreeable odors, smoke, and fumes. Wears protective masks, aprons, and goggles. There are dangers of cuts, falls, burns, and injuries from hand and power tools.
