* As an Optometry Technician you will perform health technician work to doctors in the Optometry Clinic.

* Provide inpatient/outpatient medical care services to all/or family to identify major complaints, symptoms, or reason for seeking health care.

* Assist in frame selection and measurement of spectacles to include transposing prescriptions, selecting the proper frame size and style, temple length, measures inter-pupillary distance and segment heights for multi-focal lenses.

* Operate a lensometer for verification of eyeglasses prescriptions that covers power, cylinder axis, base curve, optical center and prism of single vision, bifocals, trifocals, double segment, and progressive lenses.

* Establish and maintain databases to input and retrieve data for the purpose of organizing eyeglass orders.

* Operate and perform limited first echelon maintenance and minor repair on equipment such as Auto-refractor, Non-contact Tonometer, Lensometer, and other routine medical equipment.

Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel 5% of the time for this position.

* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

* This position is a drug testing position and incumbent will be subject to drug testing.

* This position incumbent must maintain and obtain Healthcare Providers Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

* This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

* This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

* This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

* A Pre-employmentmedical exam is required.

* Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing technician duties in optometry, visual screenings, optical shop, and diagnostic duties. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05)


Education: A half year (9 semester hours) of graduate-level education from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position such as Medical Technology, Medical Science. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)


Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Licensure/Certification: Must maintain Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
