About the Position:

These vacancies are located at Womack Army Medical Center, Department of Nursing, Central Sterile Services, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Fort Bragg is co-located with Fayetteville in the beautiful state of North Carolina, which enjoys seasonable weather year round and is surrounded by several colleges and universities. Fort Bragg is approximately two hours from many beaches on the East coast and five hours from the Appalachian Mountains.

Responsibilities

* Conduct inventory of all sterilized trays, check package integrity and expiration dates.

* Select the appropriate sterilization method for surgical instruments based upon manufacture requirements and recommendations.

* Assemble a wide variety of surgical instrument sets for surgical procedures, and uses expert knowledge to pick the proper equipment to perform surgery in several services.

* Scan surgical instruments for use in or requested for procedures, upon arrival in decontamination to issue to serviced hospital department, e.g., surgery, clinics, or wards

* Perform a full range of routine, specialized and non-routine quality assurance testing on all equipment used in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.

* Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment

* This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued.

* This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

* This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.

* This position has been designated "Mission Essential".

* This position requires the incumbent to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician.

* This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association.

* This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying microbiology principles to medical supply operations as they relate to resistance to external destructive agents; Experience in processing, assembling, trouble-shooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and/or issuing sterile and un-sterile medical supplies and equipment; AND Experience with aseptic techniques to include various detergents, cleaning techniques, sterilizing mediums, sterilizer operation and packaging, storage, shelf-life characteristics. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
