Job Description

The Sustainability Program Manager will be responsible for implementing programs and policies across the health system in support of the organization's sustainability goals and culture. The individual will maintain and develop expert knowledge within a number of areas of focus and will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This person will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of sustainability program areas including quality and continual improvement. This position reports to the Director of Sustainability.

Essential functions of this position include:

* Developing goals, plans and monitoring systems in order to execute program initiatives.

* Implement projects and/or tasks that are on-time and within budget (if applicable).

* Attending and leading meetings with peers across Inova to collaborate on projects.

* Producing outreach and communication materials both in print and electronic format.

* Collecting, analyzing and submitting accurate data for inclusion in department reports or dashboard.

* Providing support to the Director in relation to all communications/engagement activities including the preparation of reports, briefings and presentations.

* Other duties as assigned.



Two to four years of experience working on sustainability or related environmental program areas required. The ideal candidate should also have communications experience including strong interpersonal skills. A key aspect of this role will include the coordination and execution of Inova's green building initiatives including LEED certification for new and existing projects. This will require excellent project management skills along with experience implementing LEED projects. Additional consideration may be given to candidates with a current LEED credential or experience.


Bachelor's Degree required. Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, communications, business management, engineering or other related field or equivalent experience preferred.


Candidate must have outstanding interpersonal and public speaking skills as well as experience executing the full suite of Microsoft Office software applications. Graphic art, web development and any related experience is a plus. Certifications including LEED, WELL, project management and LEAN are also a plus.


LEED, WELL, LEAN, PMP preferred.
