Job Description

This role will cover a profession sports team and the expectation is for 40 hours per week during the season which runs from December - April. The role may require travel to away games, training camp, etc. based on the needs of the team, along with covering practice, and home games which may include nights and weekends.


  • Demonstrate an ability to perform the following functions: prevention, assessment, treatment (including first aid) and reconditioning and rehabilitation of injuries as set forth by the NATA Board of Certification (BOC).
  • Demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing and fitting of athletic equipment.
  • Demonstrate appropriate injury evaluation of professional athletes and work with Team Physician on treatment options based on league protocols.
  • Carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations made by the Head Team Physician.
  • Provide medical care at assigned pre-season physicals, practices, home and away games.
  • Travels with DC Defenders to provide side-line athletic training coverage.
  • Demonstrates actions consistent with Inova's “Expectations“ as duties are performed on an as-needed basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Education, Experience & Training Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in athletic training or other health related field from an accredited university.Current Virginia and Maryland state license, in good standing.Current certification, in good standing, from The Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC)

  • Other Qualification Requirements:

American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers (CPR and AED) certification

  • Physical Demands

Ability to move about freely and transfer patients weighing 50-350lbs, to and from the field of play 10% of the work time.Ability to squat, bend and crawl is required in order to work in every conceivable position. Travel off-site is required often.Work in both inside and outside environments with potential for wide range in temperature and various climate conditions.Ability to tolerate a wide variance of ambient temperatures for 3 hours during outdoor events. Variable work hours including evenings, weekends, holidays will be required.
