Graduate Nurse Technician

Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse preceptor the Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) participates in the following program:

The Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Training Program requires the direct supervision of a RN preceptor working with the GNT. The intent of this RN preceptor/GNT diad is to create a learning environment for the GNT to experience highly complex patient care within a nursing care delivery system at the unit level benefiting role development of the GNT transitioning from the GNT to the Registered Nurse role while awaiting RN licensure. The goal of this training program is to facilitate the transition of all GNTs to Registered Nurse responsibilities within Deaconess Hospital, Inc. at the time the GNT presents a verifiable, full, and unrestricted license to practice as an RN in the state of Indiana. Registered Nurse licensure will be obtained within a timeframe not to exceed 60 days.

Education and Experience

Graduate from a nationally accredited school of professional nursing and applied for and/or awaiting results of first NCLEX exam. Individuals who do not pass the NCLEX on the first attempt may remain in orientation in their current position with the understanding that they must retake the NCLEX within 60 days. If second attempt is unsuccessful, employee would be removed from Graduate Nurse Technician position. Employee will not be in Graduate Nurse Technician position for a period greater than four months. ASN hires will be required to complete their BSN within 5 years from date of hire into this job.
