Assembly Mechanic 1-4, Day Shift position available

Peterson manufactures heavy equipment, is focused on innovation, and continuously developing new machines for the forestry and recycling markets. Peterson's equipment includes, but is not limited to; horizontal grinders, disc and drum chippers, infield chain flail debarkers, blower trucks, etc.

The Final Assembly Mechanic will need to be able to perform heavy duty mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical work involving primarily the assembling of heavy equipment. Will work with a high attention to safety processes and procedures, read and follow all blue prints, production procedures, and work orders to meet production standards and quality expectations. Will coordinate work tasks with other departments, such as Engineering, and/or work units to improve work standards, quality and efficiency. Will properly utilize all PPE as required.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

ASSEMBLY MECHANIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Provides unwavering commitment and consistent professionalism to when dealing with both internal and external customers.

* Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and electrical & hydraulic schematics.

* Assembles assigned parts on assembly line in accordance with engineering and production guidelines and standards.

* Performs spot checks and final inspection of products to ensure adherence to approved quality standards.

* Operating other production equipment and performing tasks necessary to complete product to engineering specifications.

* Preparing and setup of necessary tools and equipment for assembly processes.

* Propose potential quality or productivity enhancements i.e. continual improvements.

* Review of finished assemblies, parts and product to ensure accuracy against drawings & BOMs.

* Report production issues and assist in resolutions as required.

* Participate in and attend cross functional meetings as required.

* Constant improvement mindset aiming to keep pushing for "Highest & Best" as well as "Safety, Quality, and Efficiency"

* Perform other non-essential duties as requested by the department manager.

SAFETY

* Proficient in promoting safe and healthy work environment.

* Notifies supervisor of product discrepancies or equipment malfunctions.

* Adheres to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.

* Report defective materials, equipment, or questionable conditions to the supervisor/manager to identify and correct the root cause.

* Wears personal protective equipment in accordance with training guidelines.

* Separates scrap or waste materials for recycling, reuse, or environmentally sound disposal.

* Maintain cleanliness in designated workspace by practicing 6S principles to reduce safety risks.

* Maintain a safe work environment and ensure that all company safety procedures are followed to include OSHA compliance guidelines applicable to the duties above.

* Attend a weekly department safety meeting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience/Knowledge

* Capable of reading blueprints and deciphering blueprint symbols.

* Experience with Diesel Engines, Electrical, and Hydraulic circuits and components.

* Minimum of 3-5 years heavy equipment assembly experience with similar parts, processes, and production environment.

* Overhead and Jib crane experience required.

* Fork lift experience preferred.

* Ability to apply concepts such as basic math skills, fractions, micrometers, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations, and able to convert decimals into inches.

* Must be able to read and interpret a tape measure, blueprints, and bills of material (BOM's).

* Continue to grow lean knowledge and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.

Education

* High school diploma general education degree (GED) or some previous work-related experience is a plus; or a combination of education and experience equivalent as deemed sufficient by management.

* Mechanical skills with manual dexterity to perform routine use of tools/fixtures for production aids

Levels of the Assembly Mechanic Position

Levels will be determined based on education, experience and equivalents.

* Assembly Mechanic 3 - AM3

This is the experienced level. The employee performs a full range of final assembly of heavy equipment including but not limited to installation, troubleshooting, quality control and uses considerable independent judgment to interpret and apply work guidelines with considerable latitude to specific situations. Experience of 7 years or more with diesel engines, electrical, and Hydraulic circuits and components.

* Assembly Mechanic 4 - AM4

This is the senior experienced level. The employee performs a full range of final assembly of heavy equipment including but not limited to installation, troubleshooting, quality control and uses considerable independent judgment to interpret and apply work guidelines with considerable latitude to specific situations. May independently make decisions in the absence of a Supervisor or Lead. AM4 may have the responsibility to mentor and train the three lower level Assembly Mechanic positions and provide supervision on various duties. Experience of 10+ years or more of heavy equipment production line assembly.
