Responsibilities

Summary Of Responsibilities

We are looking for a Launch Systems Engineer (LSE)/Sr. Launch Systems Engineer (SLSE) in the Launch Systems and Mission Engineering (LSME) office supporting the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Office of Space Launch (OSL). The LSE/SLSE will be responsible for coordinating the early and ongoing mission support for the assessment of potential alternative providers of the launch services to the EELV program. The LSE/SLSE will coordinate and maintain support for the evaluation of launch vehicle design, operational capabilities, and mission assurance to ensure they meet the Government evaluation criteria for non-recurring design and recurring verification. This entails providing insight to the customer on mission and launch system risks, issues, opportunities and associated mitigation strategies and corrective actions and advising the customer on key technical issues crossing mission boundaries. The LSE will serve as an Aerospace subject matter expert to the OSL on new entrant launch system development and certification activities and supporting the development of OSL risk postures for new entrant launch systems. The LSE/SLSE will directly support the OSL Launch Acquisition Division (LAD) working in conjunction with the Launch Management Division (LMD) and the OSL Chief Engineer, and will also be working closely with the Air Force SMC Launch Enterprise (LE) Office. These responsibilities will require the LSE/SLSE to develop effective relationships with chief engineers and mission managers within the Government as well as at multiple launch service contractors, SETA personnel, and Aerospace Engineering Matrix Support. The position requires the ability to manage complex issues and respond with sound recommendations to the customer. Travel to contractor and vendor facilities will be required. This position can be located in El Segundo, CA or Chantilly, VA

Key Functions

* Provide insight to the customer on mission and launch system risks, issues, opportunities and associated mitigation strategies and corrective actions

* Advise the customer on key technical issues crossing mission boundaries

* Serve as an Aerospace subject matter expert to the OSL on new entrant launch system development and certification activities

* Support the development of OSL risk postures for new entrant launch systems

* Support early requirements definition and launch system capability assessments for emerging NRO satellite system concepts

* Coordinate Aerospace program office and engineering matrix support organization resources in special studies to address critical focus areas identified by the customer

* Mentor Aerospace and customer personnel

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Launch Systems Engineer

* Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field from a recognized institution

* Minimum of 8 years engineering and/or space launch experience

* Proactive work ethic with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to achieve results through influence rather than direction

* Knowledge of launch vehicle systems, mission design analysis and/or launch base operations

* Ability to effectively communicate and present to a broad range of customers, launch service contractors, and other government support contractors while maintaining high standards of data protection

* Ability to coordinate and team with diversely skilled engineers and multiple organizations within the Government, FFRD, SETA, and contractor organizations to provide guidance and recommendations to the customer on technical challenges pertaining to launch systems and launch integration

* Must demonstrate excellent writing and oral presentation skills with the ability to effectively coordinate and present results and recommendations to senior level Aerospace and customer management

* This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

In addition to the above, the Senior Launch Systems Engineer must have the following:

* Minimum of 12 years engineering and/or space launch experience

* Strong understanding of launch vehicle systems and design, mission design analysis and launch base operations

* Substantive experience related to launch acquisition, launch vehicle systems, launch integration, launch management and/or space systems engineering

* Knowledge of the EELV mission assurance and systems engineering processes and the ability to technically coordinate that through multiple disciplines

Preferred Qualifications

* Direct experience with EELV launch systems, emerging launch systems and/or small satellite launch capabilities

* Experience coordinating with Aerospace Engineering Matrix Support organizations in order to quickly identify appropriate resources and provide quality assessments to fulfill customer needs

* Experience with developing launch service requirements, identifying critical path, assessing technical issues and risks, reviewing engineering analyses and assessing performance of launch service contractors in these areas

* Knowledge of the EELV mission assurance and systems engineering processes and the ability to technically coordinate that through multiple disciplines (Required for Sr. Launch Systems Engineer)

* Knowledge of potential new entrant provider's launch systems, facilities, and processes is desirable.

* Knowledge of The Aerospace Corporation launch organizations and associated customers across the launch enterprise

* Current or active TS/SSBI
