Other requirements:

  • Understanding of complex legal issues, or the ability to quickly learn them.
  • Must be able to research complex legal issues, and develop and execute creative legal strategies in evolving or new areas of law.
  • Valid license and current membership in the bar in any U.S. State.
  • 5 or more years of legal experience as a licensed attorney.
  • Bilingual English/ Spanish is strongly preferred.

Duties:

  • Handle an immigration case load that includes affirmative and the occasional defensive filing.
  • Case load consists of primarily VAWA, T, U, motion practice, AOS, Cuban Adjustment Act, some asylum and consular processing cases. The associate will review and approve files, pleadings, settlements and any other legal work product produced by paralegals and legal assistants.
  • The associate will assist with litigation where necessary, including post-conviction relief.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO and/or managing attorney.

Job Requirements:

  • Oversee the screening of cases to determine legal merit and appropriateness
  • Assist with assignment process, collecting evaluation forms and other tasks
  • Assist local attorney recruiting team with interview scheduling, the summer associate program, and law student recruitment activities
  • Provide legal advice and technical assistance to Pro Bono attorneys handling cases
  • Develop, screens, and place major pro bono cases with private sector attorneys and law firms, often using innovative methodologies
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to volunteer attorneys, Pro Bono attorneys, and paralegals on assigned cases
  • Preparing of Human Resources paperwork and personnel files
  • Prepare attendance sheet for every training program through CE+
  • Monitoring lateral attorney recruiting email box
  • Advise, and provide technical assistance on legal issues to Pro Bono attorneys, accepting referrals, attorney trainers, legal service providers, and aging advocates
  • Preparing candidate files o. Processing candidate expense reports
  • Support the Attorney Recruiting team and is responsible for assisting the overall administration of the attorney recruiting process
  • Challenging careers in a variety of functional areas
  • Develop and implement quality control mechanisms and case management and monitoring procedures for pro bono cases, adhering to deadlines and guidelines that facilitate efficient case handling
  • Develop and conduct an orientation program for Pro Bono coordinators of large area law firms
  • Support the Attorney Development/Training team and is responsible for assisting the overall administration of attorney training and development, prepare and distribute department materials, assist in meeting
  • Maintaining and organizing school files and statistics o. Scheduling candidate interviews as needed o. Prepare packets for Recruiting Committee meetings
